Ioanna Konstantinou was born in Athens, Greece. She studied painting for five years at the Superior School of Fine Arts of Athens. In 1981 she obtained a four-year scholarship by the French Government and went on with her studies at the University of Paris I, at the Sorbonne. She studied Art History and Paper Conservation and Restoration, practicing at the Parisian National Library’s workshops for a year. In 1985 she returned to Athens with a Master in Sciences and Techniques.
She has worked for a period of ten years in the field of paper and parchment conservation. She has been a professor at the Technical Educational Institute, Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, in Athens, chief at the conservation of manuscripts department of the National Bank’s Cultural Institution, where she published the book The Manuscript, the Book, and the Historical Archives. She has collaborated with the Ministery of Culture, the Ministery of Education (Department of Libraries and Archives), the Benaki Museum, the War Museum, The Korai Library, and many others.
Her knowledge and experience over the technology of art materials urged her to use only hand-made paper as a painting support of watercolors and high-quality linen canvas with pumice and gesso preparation for acrylic paintings.
This is her fifth personal exhibition. She has also participated in different collective exhibitions during the years.
